October 23, 2024 Quantum Computing & Nuclear Fusion
Synopsis: We provided an overview the current fusion energy landscape, and the potential for quantum computing to accelerate the demonstration and deployment of the first fusion power plants.
What is quantum computing?
Quantum computing is an advanced type of computing that leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, the fundamental theory that governs the behavior of matter and energy at the scale of atoms and subatomic particles.
What is nuclear fusion?
Nuclear fusion is the process by which two light atomic nuclei combine to form a heavier nucleus, releasing a tremendous amount of energy in the process. This is the same reaction that powers the sun and other stars.
Presenters:
Dr. Brian Grierson is Director of the Fusion Energy Technologies Department at General Atomics.
Mr. Del Rosaria is a Senior Artificial Intelligence Solutions Architect with exp in Quantum Computing and DevSecOps.
Mr. Michael DeCandia is a Lead Systems Engineer at G2 Ops, supporting the C4I section at NAVWAR.

September 26, 2024 David Victor - Electricity Supply and Nuclear Energy: Are we on the cusp of a Nuclear Renaissance? - Presented at UCSD
At the Climate Change Conference last year in Dubai, there was unprecedented attention to the value of nuclear power. Does this signal the new wave of nuclear construction and policy that will finally deliver a renaissance of nuclear power in global electric power systems? This talk evaluated that question from the perspective of the USA and other leading markets including in China, the Persian gulf, and the emerging economies. There is growing evidence that the value of nuclear power in a clean, reliably, affordable electric power grid is being recognized and translated into real investments, but whether this will spell a nuclear renaissance hinges on technological, financial, and governance improvements.
